A model sharing service.
The Breach Risk Index (BRI) is a proprietary 0–100 score rating how dangerous a breach is right now, based on how recently the data has been circulating on the dark web and how valuable it is to attackers.
In October 2021, a database backup taken from the 3D model sharing service Thingiverse began extensively circulating within the hacking community. Dating back to October 2020, the 36GB file contained 228 thousand unique email addresses, mostly alongside comments left on 3D models. The data also included usernames, IP addresses, full names and passwords stored as either unsalted SHA-1 or bcrypt hashes. In some cases, physical addresses was also exposed.

Thingiverse is a model sharing service.
Thingiverse is a model sharing service. Services like this typically hold dates of birth, email addresses, names, IP addresses, passwords, physical addresses, usernames through account registration and normal operations.
The Thingiverse dataset circulated publicly; treat as part of the standing exposure landscape.
The exposure of credentials alongside personal data heightened account-takeover and reuse risk for Thingiverse users and drew scrutiny of its data protection.
• Credential stuffing against reused passwords across other platforms | • Identity verification bypass using name + date of birth combination | • Targeted phishing campaigns using exposed email addresses | • Doxxing risk from physical address exposure
A consumer-service breach: contact and account data supports phishing, account takeover and profile enrichment. For a high-profile principal this is targeting-grade, not merely identity-theft-grade: the combination lets an adversary locate, impersonate, or pressure the principal with little additional work.
