The Breach Risk Index (BRI) is a proprietary 0–100 score rating how dangerous a breach is right now, based on how recently the data has been circulating on the dark web and how valuable it is to attackers.
In April 2023, RentoMojo was breached via a cloud misconfiguration (discovered around April 15), exposing personal data on roughly 9.3 million individuals including full names, contact details, dates of birth, addresses, government IDs such as Aadhaar and passport numbers, and user credentials.

RentoMojo is an Indian rental marketplace that leases furniture, appliances and consumer electronics on subscription to urban customers, verifying renters with identity documents.
A rental platform that underwrites lessees holds customer identity and contact data, dates of birth, addresses, Indian government IDs (Aadhaar and passport), account credentials and rental/transaction history.
RentoMojo continues to operate. The April 2023 incident followed an earlier 2017 breach of the company.
As a lessor holding Aadhaar and passport data, the breach carries significant identity-fraud exposure and regulatory concern under India's data-protection regime; it was RentoMojo's second disclosed incident.
• Credential stuffing against reused passwords across other platforms | • Identity theft and synthetic identity construction using government-issued IDs | • Identity verification bypass using name + date of birth combination | • SIM swap attacks where phone numbers are present | • Targeted phishing campaigns using exposed email addresses | • Social media account targeting and impersonation
A consumer-service breach: contact and account data supports phishing, account takeover and profile enrichment. For a high-profile principal this is targeting-grade, not merely identity-theft-grade: the combination lets an adversary locate, impersonate, or pressure the principal with little additional work.
