Summary

In November 2014 Digital Extremes the developer of the popular online game Warframe experienced a data breach that compromised approximately 775 000 user accounts. The breach resulted from a SQL injection exploit targeting the Drupal content management system used on Warframe’s website. The compromised data included email addresses usernames and website activity. Notably the breach did not expose passwords game account data or personal player information such as full names addresses or billing and payment details. Upon discovering the breach in July 2016 Digital Extremes promptly informed affected users and advised them to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts. The company also implemented several security measures including introducing two-factor authentication (2FA) and replacing the Drupal-based website with a custom system that no longer stores account information to prevent similar attacks in the future., This incident underscores the importance of maintaining robust security protocols and promptly addressing vulnerabilities in content management systems to protect user data.
