In May 2022, MangaToon suffered a data breach exposing about 23 million subscriber records. The hacker known as pompompurin obtained the data from an Elasticsearch server secured only with the weak credential "password." Exposed data included names, email addresses, usernames, genders, avatars, social-media account identities, authentication tokens from social logins, and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes.
